GRADING POLICY
Elko County School District Guideline
In order to help strike an appropriate balance between the Lesson Practice and Activities portion and the Unit and Course/Grade Level Understanding and Performance portion, all ECSD secondary teachers will weight scores collected in their grading records as per the following:
Guidelines for Weighting Secondary Grades
Summative “the bigger stuff”
Unit and Course/Grade Level Understanding and Performance
NO LESS THAN 70% OF FINAL GRADE
Formative “the smaller stuff”
Lesson Practice and Activities
NO MORE THAN 30% OF FINAL GRADE

Ms. Sloan's classes
FORMATIVE (20%)
Assignment:
Assignments will be given daily, your completed assignments should be kept in your 3 ring binder. Work must be shown to get credit and the hilighted answers must match your work. If you are absent it is your responsibility to get the work and complete it in a timely fashion. Random assignments will be collected for credit.
Quizzes:
Students will have a quiz at the end of each section. No retakes are offered on section quizzes.
Pre-Reads:
Students will read the section, take notes and do examples from each new section. Any questions students have will be answered in class and additional notes may be added by the teacher. Random pre-reads will be collected for credit.
Vocabulary:
There will be a minimum of one vocabulary quiz per chapter. No retakes will be offered for vocabulary quizzes!
SUMMATIVE (80%)
Tests:
Tests will be given at the end of each chapter, for longer chapters mid chapter tests will be included. Tests may be retaken if the student would like to improve their grade. Students must meet with the teacher to go over the original test and a remediatin plan will be made before the test can be made up. The score on the retest is the final grade.
Projects:
Throughout the year we will have different projects assiged. Some my be out of the book and cover several chapters before completion others will be assigned to enhance the textbook. Projects must be completed by the due date to get full credit and may not be redone.

Final Exams:
Final exams will be given at the end of each semester. No retakes will be given for the final exam.
